To me, painting outdoors is extremely rewarding. It's a thrill to be outdoors working at a fast pace to finish a painting before the light fades, rain falls or wind picks up. I never expected it to be so challenging until I started painting outdoors on a regular basis. Each session is a challenge unto itself while painting plein air.

Doug Clarke is a Plein Air and Studio painter based out of Virginia Beach. He works almost exclusively in oils, as well was on location, to create the majority of his paintings. Currently his working on building a collection of work that captures vanishing landscapes from his hometown area of Southeastern Virginia.
